Fundamentals of Thermodynamic Modelling of Materials
Summer School • 2 - 6 July • INSTN, Saclay, France

The aim of the school is to provide basic understanding on the coupling of ab initio, molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo calculations for applications in computational thermodynamics (Calphad) and phase field methods in order to simulate phase transformations and microstructures and consequently properties of multi-component materials.
The school address PhD students, post-docs and scientists.

Materials Innovation for Nuclear Optimized Systems
MINOS International Workshop • 5 -7 December • INSTN, Saclay, France

The Centre of Excellence for Nuclear Materials, MINOS, of the CEA Nuclear Energy Division, organizes jointly with the CEA/INSTN an international workshop on “Materials Innovation for Nuclear Optimized Systems”.
The workshop will be the opportunity to address specific topics related to top-ranked research in current and future materials for structures and fuels for fission reactors and components for fusion reactors. The workshop consists of four sessions. Each one will combine keynotes by leading scientists and lectures by experts in material sciences and nuclear engineering:
Materials for next generation nuclear energy,
Irradiation effects,
Structural, mechanical and chemical characterization,
Nuclear materials ageing.
The closure of the workshop will be followed by the visits of the JANNuS-Saclay facility, an irradiation platform dedicated to the experimental simulation of irradiation effects in nuclear structural materials, and that of the LTMEx, a cutting-edge laboratory for design, manufacturing and characterization of innovative nuclear materials.

Modelling of Corrosion
Winter School • 10 - 14 December • INSTN, Saclay, France
The winter school “Modelling of Corrosion” is jointly organized by the CEA (INSTN and Nuclear Energy Division) and Chimie ParisTech, with the collaboration of Curtin University (Australia).

The aim of the school is to provide PhD students, post-doc researchers, young scientists and engineers with the various methods for corrosion modelling, on the basis of the current understanding of corrosion mechanisms.
The program includes lectures given by international leading scientists in the field, and practical computer training sessions with the use of relevant softwares.
