Title

Magneto-electric coupling in perovskites oxide thin films

Abstract

A number of perovskite structured oxides exhibit ferroelectric charge ordering. Their coupling with ferro-, ferri- and/or antiferro- magnetic materials is a challenging topic for spintronics applications. The proposed thesis work consists of a close collaboration between CEA and SOLEIL; the student direction and support will be equally shared between both institutions. A first part of the work we will be devoted to the determination of the growth conditions of ferroelectric perovskite structured oxides thin films by molecular beam epitaxy assisted by an atomic oxygen plasma on conducting substrates prepared at the CEA lab. Doping of the layers and deposition of antiferromagnetic oxides will also be considered. A second important part will consist in state of the art measurements undertaken on the most advanced synchrotron radiation centers and especially by Soft X-ray microscopy techniques (X-PEEM and STXM) at HERMES beamline at SOLEIL. The student will acquire skills in ultra-high vacuum techniques, molecular beam epitaxy, magnetometry as well as in advanced synchrotron radiation methodes.
